Estimate Activity Duration

Develop Schedule

critical path
= longest duration path through network diagram
= shortest time to complete project

total float (slack)
= amount of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the project end

free float (slack)
= amount of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the early start of successor

project float (slack)
= amount of time a project can be delayed without delaying externally imposed project completion date

lead = earlier activity start (if possible), before predecessor has ended

lag = inserted waiting time between two activities (e.g. wait for paint to dry)

Schedule Compression

  • Fast Tracking, =doing critical path activities in parallel (–> rework, increased risk, more communication)
  • Crashing, = keep scope, compress schedule for least incremental costs (–> increased cost)
  • Reduce Scope
  • Cut Quality
